Eubrontes-Kayentapus – Lavini di Marco

This illustration was commissioned to me by Marco Colombo and Francesco Tomasinelli, two nature photographers and authors of the book “Viaggio nell’Italia selvaggia. Guida alle piΓΉ belle esperienze naturalistiche” (Journey into Wild Italy: A Guide to the Most Beautiful Natural Experience”) published by Ricca Editore.

The aim of this book is to provide an overview of Italy’s natural attractions. Among them is the fossil footprint site of Lavini di Marco in Trentino Alto Adige. In this site, numerous dinosaur fossil footprints dating back to the early Jurassic period, approximately 199 million years ago, can be found.

The request from my clients was to depict one of these dinosaurs in the act of creating these footprints that eventually turned into fossils.

The species my clients wanted to be depicted was the one associated with the footprints classified as Eubrontes/Kayentapus. This type of dinosaur was most likely a carnivorous dinosaur, possibly resembling the North American theropod Dilophosaurus or the Chinese dinosaur Sinosaurus, both of which lived during the same period.
