Cetacei dell’Adriatico

CETACEANS OF THE ADRIATIC SEA 🐬🐋

I’ve just came back from 4 fantastic days in Trieste at the BARCOLANA 2025 edition.
It was the beginning of July when I was commissioned by the Marine Protected Area of Miramare (WWF) to create some illustrations for a sci-comm project about cetaceans, in occasion of this year Barcolana and sponsored by @schmidtocean.

The commission was compelling and I was caught up in the idea from the start.
I had to create 2 tables for a citizen science initiative. The two tables would have been used in a free booklet which aim was to spread the knowledge of cetaceans and how to recognize them.
The first table was a panoramic of the common, erratic and visitor species in the Adriatic sea.
The second table was a field-guide graphic for the species recognition at sea.

But the commission contemplated also another item: I was requested to design a BENCH. A whale-fluke shaped bench 😍🐋.
So here you have it! In the 6th slide you can see the final product. It is made in pressboard and it is the size of a juvenile Fin whale’s fluke.
And most important, was also comfortable 🙏

The @ampmiramare @wwfitalia @schmidtocean stand will be visitable until Sunday 12th October, in Trieste.
