The Red Hermit Crab, also known as the Devil Crab, is a small hermit crab that can be found in the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean.
Like many hermit crabs, it spends its life inside the abandoned shell of a gastropod. The Devil Crab, in particular, has two preferred shell options. It favors the tower shell (scientific name Cerithium vulgatum) and the common whelk shell (Phorcus turbinatus).
Depending on the chosen shell, the hermit crab will have different mobility capabilities outside of the water.
