Are you organizing a natural history / animal drawing workshop for your association or museum?

Hi, I’m Simone Zoccante an Italian natural history illustrator and paleoartist, with a deep-rooted knowledge in zoology, natural history, and paleontology.

Often, when people think of an illustrator, they envision their role as simply that of a technical executor; a person who follows company directives, guidelines, and tasks handed down from above. And for many illustrators, this perception holds true.

However, there is another category of illustrators, of which I am a part, who are able to carry out various types of initiatives and services that can work in a 360-degree manner with the potential of their specialized field.

Specifically, I am referring to the creation of workshops, seminars, courses, interactive experiences, and diverse themed events, both in-person and online.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to create some of these events for companies, museums, and associations. Typically, I always start by understanding the specific needs of the client in order to build a tailored educational proposal based on the type of audience that will benefit from the service and the facilities where the event will take place.

THE WORKSHOPS THAT I CONDUCT AND OFFER

1. LIVE AND ON-DEMAND SEMINARS

My work as an illustrator and artist is not the only part of my profession. It is accompanied by teaching and outreach activities.

Live and on-demand seminars and workshops are some of the services I offer in this field. Specifically, the topics I cover in these activities include animal drawing and various branches of natural history, such as basics of vertebrate zoology, evolution, and the history of life on Earth.

I can conduct these activities for associations, museums, and individuals. Currently, I have conducted in-depth seminars on dinosaurs and the Mesozoic era with the association “Radice di Uno per Cento.”

2. LEARN TO DRAW ANIMALS

Among the various courses I teach, I have developed a workshop on drawing animals to be held at natural history museums.

The workshop focuses on teaching traditional drawing techniques using graphite and ink on paper. What sets my approach apart is my background in natural sciences and the creation of an intuitive path for exploring and observing animals, a method I have developed over my 25 years of self-study.

The unique aspect of this workshop is that it takes place within natural history museums, allowing participants to use taxidermied animals as valuable study references to accurately and faithfully portray even the most complex subjects.

A version of the instructional manual/sketchbook will soon be available in the market as an independent publication.
